asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he has any plans for tree planting in County Louth over the next five years.

The possibility of acquiring such lands in County Louth as may be offered to my Department for State afforestation purposes will continue to be fully investigated and the level of new planting must inevitably depend on the results achieved in that sphere. Present indications are, however, that the main thrust of planting by the Forest and Wildlife Service in County Louth in the years immediately ahead will lie in the reafforestation of clearfelled areas in the existing State forests in the county.
I should add that any response from County Louth land-owners to the Department's efforts to stimulate planting on privately-owned lands will, of course, be welcome.
