asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the serious hardship being caused to residents in the Cahermore-Allihies area of County Cork due to the collapse of a public roadway; if his Department have costed its repair; if he will make the necessary funds available to carry out the work; if so, when work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The primary responsibility in regard to this road, including the provision of funds for whatever works may be necessary, rests on Cork County Council. The council have informed my Department that their engineering staff are examining the position to determine the extent of the problem and prepare a detailed estimate of the cost of repair. I intend providing some road grant assistance towards the council's costs and I am making an initial allocation of £50,000 available immediately for this purpose.
