Vol. 347 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax Refund Claims.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the annoyance and frustration arising from the suspension of counter and telephone service in the matter of negotiations and claims on the refund of taxes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the office of the inspectors of taxes situated in Hawkins House has been affected by the form of industrial action mentioned in the question. The staff in that office embarked on this action as a protest about grievances related to accommodation. This matter is the subject of negotiations with staff representatives with a view to a solution at the earliest possible date. While there is no doubt that the action taken by the staff has created great inconvenience for the taxpayers dealt with in this particular office, I am also advised that all matters raised by means of correspondence from these taxpayers is being dealt with without undue delay.
