Vol. 347 No. 12

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

360.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a grant available to Waterford County Council for the taking over and maintenance of non-public roads.

In 1984 the Government are providing £2.15 million for grants under the local improvements scheme in respect of farm road projects eligible for EEC aid under the western package. The 1984 scheme relates to improvement works to non-public roads but it does not apply to counties (such as Waterford) which do not come within the scope of the package. Local authorities generally were notified to this effect on 19 December 1983.

The take-over of non-public roads is a matter for the road authorities concerned. The provision of State funds for the take-over of such roads would not be justified, having regard to the existing extensive public road network.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding a new house grant application for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and when approval will be issued.

The file in this case has been referred to my Department's inspector for an early inspection with a view to allocation and payment of a grant.

362.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will investigate the reason a house improvement grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow as the application was made under the old scheme and mislaid in the Department.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named.

363.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a conversion to solid fuel grant under the old scheme was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if the case will now be re-investigated and the grant paid.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a solid fuel grant from the person named. There was, however, an application from a person with the same name and a broadly similiar address in respect of which a grant cannot be paid because contrary to the Housing Regulations, 1980 (as amended), notification of completion of work and a claim for payment of the grant were not received in my Department by 30 June 1981.
