Vol. 347 No. 12

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowance Certificate.

387.

asked the Minister for Finance if a tax free allowance certificate will now be issued and a taxation error corrected for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has had no communication from the taxpayer since November 1979. A certificate of tax-free allowances was not issued because, on the basis of the information available to the inspector, the taxpayer was self-employed and assessments to income tax were raised on him on this basis for a number of years. In the circumstances, it is considered that the taxpayer's affairs could best be dealt with by calling to the tax office and the inspector will now contact him to arrange a meeting.
