Vol. 347 No. 13

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

340.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of capital loans still outstanding to contractors in lieu of extras or retention money for completed swimming pool projects which will be payable in 1984.

Payments to contractors for swimming pool projects are a matter for the local authority or other body providing the pool, and information is not normally available in my Department as to how such payments stand. My function is to authorise loans to local authorities, up to a level of 80 per cent of the costs, to enable them to provide pools or to assist voluntary groups in the provision of pools.

In the case of a swimming pool provided by Mayo County Council in Castlebar, loans totalling £343,460 have been approved, leaving a balance of £11,540 awaiting approval to bring the total amount to 80 per cent of the cost. The outstanding amount will be considered for approval when final accounts which have been requested from the local authority come to hand.
