Written Answers. - County Dublin School Needs.

416.

asked the Minister for Education if she will receive a deputation from the Portmarnock community association to discuss the urgent need for an additional second level school in the area.

The future post-primary provision to be made for the Portmarnock area is being considered in my Department at present. Such arrangements as may be considered necessary for discussions between my Department and local interested parties may be made as the need arises.

417.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the shortage of places for first year students in St. Finian's College, Swords; and if she has plans to resolve the problem.

St. Finian's College in Swords operates under the auspices of County Dublin Vocational Education Committee. The committee informed my Department very recently that the number of applications made for first year places in the school for the next school year, 1984-85, exceeds the number of places which may be available. The matter is being examined at present in consultation with County Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

418.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the extension to Ballyboughal national school, County Dublin.

My Department have agreed that an extension comprising one classroom and a general purposes room should be provided at Ballyboughal national school, County Dublin. It is understood from the Commissioners of Public Works that they have commenced the preparation of a sketch scheme for the project. It is not possible at this stage to say when building work on the extension will commence.
