Vol. 348 No. 5

Written Answers. - Southern Cross (Dublin) Route.

398.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will ensure that Dublin County Council will complete as an urgent priority the section of the Southern Cross Route from Loughlinstown to Ticknock and that the necessary money will be made available to complete all aspects of the project as quickly as possible; if he is aware of any recent plans to shelve this section of the Southern Cross Route; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received outline proposals, from Dublin County Council, for the Southern Cross Route. They provide for a new road from Firhouse Road to Ticknock and for its extension, via Leopardstown Road, to the Bray Road, but not for a new link between Ticknock and Loughlinstown.

Primary responsibility for the submission of proposals for the road in question (Ticknock to Loughlinstown) rests with the council. In the absence of such a proposal, it is not possible to say when a State grant might be made available for the work having regard to the priority of other planned major road improvements works in the general area including the Southern Cross Route, the ongoing improvement of the existing Bray Road to dual-carriageway standard, and the proposed Shankill-Bray by-pass.
