Vol. 348 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fishery Protection Officers.

328.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason no travelling or subsistence allowances are being given to the fishery protection officers as it is quite impossible for them to fulfil their duties without these essential allowances; when these allowances will be paid; and whether the back payment due to them will be paid.

I presume that the question refers to fishery protection staff employed by the regional fisheries boards. Travelling and subsistence allowances continue to be paid to their staff by these boards for approved official journeys. I am not aware that any board has ceased payment of these allowances or of any back payment due. Boards, of course, must keep expenditure within their overall financial resources.
