Vol. 348 No. 8

Written Answers. - Mortgage Subsidy Applicants.

389.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment if applicants for a mortgage subsidy, who are not applying for new house grants, because they qualify for Gaeltacht grants, are required to submit certified SL.4 forms with their mortgage subsidy applications.

The mortgage subsidy scheme was introduced to reduce the impact of mortgage payments on first time owner occupiers and a certificate from the inspector of taxes (SL.4) is required from each applicant for subsidy to establish that he is a first time borrower. This requirement applies irrespective of whether a new house grant is paid by my Department or Roinn na Gaeltachta.
