Three new helicopters intended mainly for search, rescue and air ambulance services were ordered in December 1982, one for delivery in 1985 and the other two early in 1986. These helicopters will be based at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, County Dublin. In addition, two further helicopters were ordered in December 1982 for use in conjunction with the new patrol vessel for the Naval Service which is due to be commissioned later this year.
It is not the practice to disclose unit contract prices. However, the total basic cost of the five aircraft, exclusive of VAT, is of the order of £15 million.
