Vol. 348 No. 9

Written Answers. - Primary School Building.

403.

asked the Minister for Education how the additional allocation of £2 million for the replacement of substandard schools, prefabricated and temporary classrooms will be expended; if she will give details of the schools which will be improved; and the schools in County Clare that will be affected.

The terms of the announcement made by the Minister for Finance in his 1984 budget speech were as follows: an additional Exchequer allocation of £2 million has been made for primary school building. It will be spent on updating substandard primary school accommodation and replacing prefabricated and other temporary accommodation by permanent classrooms. On foot of this allocation my Department will be in a position to add to its 1984 national school building programme about 30 projects which could not otherwise be commenced in that year.

It would not be in accordance with normal procedure to publish in advance of completion of discussions with the school authorities concerned and finalisation of the arrangements for placing of contracts the names of the individual schools which may be involved.
