Vol. 348 No. 11

Written Answers. - Cleaners' Pay.

386.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the conditions and hourly rates of pay of office cleaners used in his Department; and whether such cleaners are directly employed by his Department or by an outside agency.

The rate of pay of office cleaners directly employed by my Department is £106.61 per week or £3.55 per hour. The conditions of service, hours of attendance, annual and sick leave, superannuation are those which apply generally to the unestablished grade of cleaner in the civil service. My Department also employ contract cleaners. As the contract cleaning companies engage their own staff I am not in a position to give information about the conditions or pay of any of their employees who work in my Department.
