Vol. 348 No. 12

Written Answers. - Statement to Garda.

434.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason a woman (details supplied) in County Dublin was refused the right to have her husband present when making her statement to the gardaí in Clondalkin Garda Station; the reason she was refused the right to be physically examined by a female doctor; the reason she was refused a copy of the statement she made to the gardaí and the reason she was refused the right to have a copy of the medical report.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the woman concerned did not at the time of the investigation (1) ask to have her husband present when making her statement, (2) request that a female doctor should carry out the medical examination, (3) request a copy of her statement or (4) request a copy of the medical report. The complainant has since been given a copy of her statement, as a result of its coming to notice that she wished to have a copy. It is not the practice to give complainants copies of medical reports.
