Vol. 348 No. 12

Written Answers. - Mayo School Accommodation.

436.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the deplorable lack of accommodation and the resulting stress on teachers and pupils at a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; the reason for the delay of approximately six months from receipt of detailed drawings to the sanction by her Department of the appointment of a quantity surveyor to prepare a bill of quantities; if she will allow the school authorities to proceed to tender when the bill of quantities is complete at the end of April 1984 with a view to starting construction on the project in July-August 1984 and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Planning of the major extension to the school in question has been processed as quickly as the workload of the Department has allowed. There will be minimum delay in examining the bills of quantities when they have been submitted. Pending the completion of a review of the building programme for second-level schools in the context of capital availability, commitments and priorities, I am not in a position to say when tenders may be invited or when work on the project may be commenced.
