The numbers of persons adjudicated bankrupt in the legal years ended 31 July 1982 and 31 July 1983 were 31 and 24, respectively. The number from 1 August 1983 to date is 25.
When is it proposed to bring forward the Committee Stage of the bankruptcy legislation to deal with this situation?
The law is being updated by way of a new bankruptcy Bill based in the main on recommendations contained in the 1972 report of the bankruptcy law committee. This Bill, entitled the Bankruptcy Bill, 1982, has passed Second Stage in the Dáil. There is a motion on the Order Paper in the name of the Minister to the effect that the Bill be referred for examination to the Joint Committee on Legislation of which Deputy Taylor is chairman.
