Vol. 349 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow (Cork) Vocational School.

11.

asked the Minister for Education when the new vocational school at Mallow will be built; the reason it is now going to be built for only 420 as the original plan was for 550; and if she will guarantee that the block release course will be continued.

At this early stage of planning, I am not in a position to say when the new vocational school at Mallow will be built. The enrolment in the school was increasing steadily and was almost 500 pupils when approval for building was given on the basis of 550 places. Since then the enrolment has fallen considerably. It is 416 in the current year. In the circumstances, my Department now consider that 425 places are adequate to provide for future needs. The provision to be made for apprentices is under consideration in consultation with AnCO.
