Vol. 349 No. 3

Written Answers. - Livestock Inspection Levy.

556.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 521 on 13 March 1984 he will suspend the collection of the livestock inspection levy pending an investigation into how that levy will be spent.

The cost of the veterinary inspection service at meat export premises in 1984 is estimated at £7.3 million whereas receipts from the inspection fees are estimated at £5.8 million. In the circumstances there can be no question of suspending or reducing the fees charged.
