Vol. 349 No. 3

Written Answers. - Legal Education Access.

559.

asked the Minister for Justice if, given the widespread and continuing disquiet among sections of the public in general and third level law students in particular about the system of and access to legal education in the Republic of Ireland, he will take steps to initiate a public inquiry with wide terms of reference into the whole matter.

Limerick East): In the course of a debate in the Seanad on 22 June 1983 on a motion to set up a working party to examine a number of matters including access to legal education, I undertook to ascertain the views of the Government on the subject of the motion. In accordance with normal practice it was necessary to examine the issues involved so that an analysis of the problems can be put to the Government. That work is now practically complete and I hope to make a submission to the Government shortly.
