Vol. 349 No. 9

Written Answers. - Timber Supply.

298.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason he refused to make a sufficient amount of timber available to a firm (details supplied) so that they can reopen another firm (details supplied) in County Cork.

I do not accept the inference in the question. The position is that, as an exceptional once-off measure, I am prepared to make available to any firm which takes over the County Cork mill referred to an opening stock of up to 25,000m³ at market price. Subsequently, however — while the quota supply entitlement which formerly applied will continue to operate — any new purchaser's raw material requirements would be obtainable through competitive purchase in the open market in the normal way.
