Vol. 349 No. 11

Written Answers. - Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1964.

184.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will amend the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1964, which precludes Dublin Corporation from any responsibility for the buildings adjacent to buildings demolished under this Act; and in particular, if he will investigate a case of this (details supplied) in Dublin 7.

The provisions of the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1964, are designed to enable action to be taken in regard to any building or other structure which is, or is likely to be, dangerous to any person or property. It would be inappropriate for me to make any general statement as to the extent of a local authority's responsibilities arising from action taken by them under the Act; this could only be determined in the circumstances of any particular case. I have asked Dublin Corporation for a report on the case referred to by the Deputy and will consider in the light of this what action, if any, should be taken.
