Vol. 349 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospitals' Emergency Services.

455.

asked the Minister for Health if he will recommend that the Dublin hospitals who provide emergency services on call be advertised on radio each evening to facilitate people requiring urgent medical attention.

The Eastern Health Board are responsible for the organisation and co-ordination of the accident and emergency services which are provided on a rota basis by eight major Dublin Hospitals. The purpose of the rota is to ensure that there is a 24-hour "on call" emergency hospital service available for accidents and emergencies in the Dublin region. The emergency services can be contacted through the "999" system and details of the particular hospital "on call" are known to the ambulance and hospital services and to general practitioners in the greater Dublin area. This system ensures that anyone requiring urgent specialised medical attention has ready access to the hospital "on call". In less serious cases patients should consult with their own general practitioner.
