I am fully aware of Gort community association's efforts in collecting finance for the proposed community centre in Gort.
Under my Department's Youth Employment Scheme, a grant of £45,000 was sanctioned towards the provision of a community centre in Gort in January 1983. This grant was intended to provide employment for 12 young workers and a supervisor for 40 weeks and included a sum of £5,400 towards the cost of materials and £3,600 towards craftwork. Sanction for the grant was given over 15 months ago and the Deputy will appreciate that it cannot be held indefinitely.
There are no funds at my Department's disposal which would enable me to make a capital grant available in this case.
