Vol. 350 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - County Donegal Land Payments.

694.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will furnish details of persons still making payments to the Land Commission in respect of an estate (details supplied) in County Donegal which was divided in 1936; the amount paid to date; the amount still outstanding; and the reason these people have not been given the option of buying out the land.

127 of the tenants amongst whom this estate was divided are still paying annuities to the Land Commission. Records are not, however, kept in such a form as to make the information requested about the amount paid to date and the amount outstanding readily available and the expenditure of time and labour required to ascertain it could not be justified.

During the course of a general campaign in 1979 to redeem small annuities, 37 of the tenants were given the option of redeeming their annuities but only 18 availed themselves of the offer. It is, of course, open to any tenant to redeem his annuity at any time if he so wishes.
