The reason the estimated outturn for post office services for 1983 was £24.039 million, While the original estimate for that year was £14.067 million, was the fact that additional costs arising in respect of the years 1981 to 1983 were finally determined in 1983. Provision for these extra amounts was included in the Supplementary Estimate for Social Welfare passed by the Dáil in December 1983.
