Vol. 350 No. 5

Written Answers. - EEC Social Fund.

581.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money to be spent in each county in 1984 from the EEC social fund; and if he will outline the areas where such expenditure will be undertaken.

Applications for assistance from the European Social Fund from Ireland in 1984 totalled £169.717 millions. The amount which will be approved for Ireland will not be decided by the EEC Commission until July next. As aid from the social fund is allocated on the basis of national programmes, details of the amounts to be spent in each county are not available.

The money from the social fund will go towards programmes of vocational training and job creation, including the retraining of workers for new technologies and the training of the handicapped.
