The meetings referred to were arranged through the Galway County Council. Officials of my Department, who attended meetings, expressed concern about the possible adverse effects on local oyster beds of the council's waste disposal proposals and suggested that from the fisheries aspect consideration should be given to the provision of secondary treatment facilities of the Oranmore sewage for discharge at an appropriate site. It was agreed that the county council would re-examine the matter in the light of those views.
