Vol. 350 No. 13

Written Answers. - Army Pension.

527.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will arrange for the immediate payment of an Army pension to a person (details supplied) in County Longford as it was approved in April 1983.

The person referred to was awarded a disability pension under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the injury he sustained. He had already received a lump sum payment for the same injury in settlement of a civil claim. The Army Pensions Acts provide that any compensation received may be taken into consideration in fixing the amount of any pension which may be granted under the Acts. As the annual value of the compensation in this case, assessed on an acturial basis, exceeded the appropriate rate of pension under the Army Pensions Acts, payment of pension has been withheld. The question of payment will be considered if and when the annual rate of pension, appropriate to the degree of disablement exceeds the annual value of the compensation awarded.
