Vol. 351 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take item No. 6. By agreement the Dáil will sit later than 9 p.m. and the hour at which business will be interrupted will be 10.30 p.m. Private Members' Business will be item No. 17.

Would the Taoiseach tell the House who Mr. Peter Prendergast is and what he is?

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

He is the Government Press Secretary who has had an apportunity to inform people of that which the Deputy would wish to have suppressed — the fact that by special request the Deputy was added to the receiving line at Leinster House at my instance and that he was also an invitee to the dinner at Dublin Castle to which Deputy Leaders of the Opposition parties were not invited on the occasion of the visit of President Kennedy.

To what extent does he carry any responsibility or accountability to this House? To whom does he account?

This does not arise.

He is accountable to me and I am accounting to the Deputy but he does not seem to like it.

Put down a motion about it and you will get all the facts for the record.

(Interruptions.)

Why not have a judicial inquiry? It is serious enough for that.

Ruffled feathers.

I am ruling that this matter is out of order.

The Deputy walked right into it. Leave it so.

It is infantile and childish.

(Interruptions.)

Order, please.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the situation relating to the redundant workers at Kilrush Pottery and their entitlements.

They were not invited to the Castle.

Order, please. I will communicate with the Deputy.
