Vol. 351 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - IDA Job Creation Cost.

6.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the average cost to the IDA for each new job created in 1983, where State grants were made available.

I am informed that the average cost per job for projects approved by the Industrial Development Authority under their various programmes, in 1983 is as follows:

Domestic new industry

£11,407

Overseas new industry

£9,973

Domestic small industry

£4,890

Overseas small industry

£5,417

Enterprise development

£6,212

International services

£7,390

In 1983, 11,450 first-time jobs were created by the IDA in grant-aided industry. Total capital and training grants made by IDA in 1983 amounted to £121.5 million.

The Deputy will appreciate that a number of the first-time jobs created in 1983 arise from grant payments made in previous years. Similarly a number of jobs will be created this year arising from grant payments made in 1983.
