Vol. 351 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Society in Liquidation.

10.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware that a building society (details supplied) is now in liquidation; if he is satisfied that the affairs of the company were managed in the best public interest; if the State is a creditor of this company; if so, the extent to which it is likely that depositors will be paid a dividend; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the building society in question is in liquidation. I have no function in relation to the claims of creditors of societies, or indeed of any bodies corporate, in liquidation; such matters should be taken up with the appointed liquidator.

I am also aware that the affairs of the building society in question, in conjunction with those of other closely associated societies and companies, are being investigated at the request of the Registrar of Friendly Societies. As this investigation is still continuing, I am not in a position to make a statement in the matter.
