Vol. 351 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Tenders.

536.

asked the Minister for Health if he will ensure that correct tendering procedures are followed and that the Irish firm's tender (details supplied) is given due and fair consideration by a Dublin hospital (details supplied).

The issue here, which is the replacement of a steam boiler from insurance funds following the failure of the original, is primarily a matter for the hospital in question. A formal tendering procedure (i.e. issueing of specification and setting of date for receipt of tenders) would not be normal practice in the case of a small scale boiler replacement such as the hospital were faced with. However, quotations were received from several firms including the Irish firm with which the Deputy is concerned. The latter firm's quotation was not the lowest and because of this and also for reasons of technical suitability the hospital's consulting engineer has advised that the order be given to another company.
