Vol. 351 No. 7

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

464.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will detail the tax relief available for all PRSI payments; if he is satisfied with the present system; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Taxpayers in insurable employment who pay PRSI at the higher rates (Classes A1, A3, E1, E3, F1, F3, G1, G3, H1, H3, N1 or N3) are entitled to an allowance of £286 against their taxable income arising from such employment. This allowance which is temporary was introduced in 1982 and was continued, at a slightly reduced rate, in 1983 and 1984. I will be reviewing the allowance again when considering future tax policy.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the inspector of taxes is in communication with the agents acting in the case concerning certain documents which are required to enable the inspector to carry out reviews of the taxpayer's income tax liabilities for a number of past years. When these documents are supplied, the inspector will determine whether or not a refund of tax is due to the taxpayer.
