asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a maximum grant for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Roscommon; the number of houses and farms involved; and the reason for the delay.

There are an estimated three houses and three farms in this scheme. The present position is that the allocation of grants for the scheme is being considered by my Department. There has been no avoidable delay by my Department in this case. All schemes receive the grants for which they qualify but I cannot say at this stage what that may be in this case.

This group were informed by my Department in May 1984 that their proposal did not qualify for group scheme grants as it would serve only one house. An application for a house improvement grant for the installation of a water supply has been forwarded to the household concerned.

This scheme is dependent on the provision of the north Roscommon regional scheme in respect of which my Department have issued approval to Roscommon County Council for the preparation of contract documents. There has been no avoidable delay by my Department in this case. All schemes receive the grants for which they qualify but I cannot say at this stage what that may be in this case.

A proposal for a group scheme serving ten houses and nine farms at this location was abandoned in 1978 when the group indicated that they would obtain water from individual connections to county council mains.

A proposal to provide a group scheme serving two houses at this location was abandoned in 1979 when the members joined another scheme being planned in the area.

Grants of £1,306 were allocated provisionally in 1982 for this scheme serving two houses and two farms, on condition that the parties concerned drew up a legal agreement for use of the proposed source. I understand that the group has not proceeded with the scheme and is now considering the possibility of obtaining water from the proposed north Roscommon regional supply scheme. My Department has approved the preparation by Roscommon County Council of contract documents for the proposed regional scheme. There has been no avoidable delay by my Department in this case.
