Vol. 352 No. 4

Written Answers. - House Grant Applications.

391.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will indicate the number of new house grant applications that have been refused on the basis that the applicants occupied the house for longer than twelve months; and if he will amend the regulations appropriately to allow for payment in such cases where for a variety of reasons applications might not have been received in time in the Department.

The information requested is not readily available in my Department. Records of rejected applications are not segregated on the basis of grounds for rejection and with the available staff resources it would not be possible to have this information extracted without seriously affecting the processing of day-to-day work.

I have however certain aspects of the condition referred to under review at present and I expect to be in a position soon to make an announcement in the matter.

392.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan.

A grant could not be paid in this case because contrary to a statutory condition of the scheme the person named occupied the house for more than one year prior to the receipt of his application in my Department. However, I have certain aspects of the condition referred to under review at present and I expect to be in a position soon to make an announcement in the matter.
