asked the Minister for Justice to list any parcels of land purchased by his Department over the past 20 years for the purpose of building development which still remain undeveloped; the size of each such parcel of land; the date on which it was purchased; the purchase price of the land; the estimated present value of the land and the plans his Department now have for the use of such land.

, Limerick East): Information about eight properties purchased since 1972 which so far have not been developed is as follows:

(i) 6.53 acres at Kilbarrack, County Dublin, was purchased in June 1972. The property was transferred to the Office of Public Works on 26 November 1980.

(ii) .384 acres adjacent to St. Patrick's Institution, North Circular Road, Dublin 7, was purchased on 9 July 1974. In November 1981 the major portion was exchanged for an adjoining .38 acres closer to the perimeter of St. Patrick's Institution as a location for future facilities for Mountjoy Prison.

(iii) 3.4 acres adjacent to Portlaoise Prison was purchased on 4 January 1977 for security reasons.

(iv) .279 acres at Richmond Lodge, Old Kilmainham, Dublin 8, was purchased on 22 December 1978 as the location for a probation and welfare service hostel.

(v) seven acres at Hart's Corner, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, was purchased on 4 August 1980 as the location of a future training centre for officers in the prison service.

(vi) .434 acres adjacent to Cork Prison at Rathmore Road, Cork, was purchased on 11 September 1980 to form part of the site for the proposed place of detention for juveniles.

(vii) .372 acres adjacent to St. Patrick's Institution was purchased on 15 April 1981 as a location for future facilities for Mountjoy Prison.

(viii) 2.5 acres adjacent to Limerick Prison was purchased on 31 March 1983 for future development of Limerick Prison. Arrangements are being made for letting the property on short term lease.

It is contrary to established practice to disclose the purchase price or a valuation of property acquired by private treaty.
