I propose to take Questions Nos. 325 and 326 together.

The latest information at county level is that obtained from the census of agriculture carried out in June 1980. The information available in respect of holdings, utilisation of land and numbers of livestock was published in the March 1983 issue of the Irish Statistical Bulletin. In the case of the registered number of farm-holders the data relate to the number of agricultural holdings, the definition of which is set out in the reprint. With regard to full time and part time farmers the information available is that derived from the June 1980 farm structures sample survey, which was held in conjunction with the census, and relates to estimates of the number of farming landholders classified by the estimated time devoted to work on the farm in the 12 month period ended 31 May 1980. The information is set out in the following table together with estimates of the numbers of farm labourers (i.e. non-family workers) regularly employed.

No information on rateable valuation was collected in either the census of agriculture or the farm structures sample survey.

Notes:

(i) The data are estimated from the June 1980 farm structures sample survey and relate to twelve months ending 31 May 1980.

(ii) The annual work unit (AWU) was taken as 2,200 hours for the 12 month period.

(iii) The estimates relate to farming landholders with at least one hectare of crops and pasture (including rough grazing) being farmed.

(iv) The information on AWU is based on the landholder's own estimate of the number of weeks worked and the average hours worked per week during the 12 months ended May 1980.
