Vol. 352 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Status.

347.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will be in a position to make a decision concerning the application by Tallaght Community Council, Tallaght, County Dublin for urban status for the Tallaght area.

Application for town commission status for Tallaght has been made by a group of residents under the Towns Improvement (Ireland) Act, 1854. At this stage the boundaries for the proposed town have not been defined in sufficient details to enable the matter to be processed. Moreover, as I indicated in my statement to the House on 11 October regarding the national plan, the position of the new settlements to the west of the city is among the specific matters to be taken account of in the current review of local government structures. It has been suggested to the promoters of the current proposal that they may consider it appropriate to defer action on the town commissioner proposal in the circumstances, in view, of the wider proposals being prepared.
