asked the Minister for Health if he will give a breakdown of how he intends to save £6 million by an increase in hospital charges and payments by consultants for use of equipment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Hospital Charges.

It is proposed to increase charges in respect of private and semi-private accommodation in public hospitals by at least 15 per cent with effect from 1 January 1985. The precise revised levels of charges that will apply will shortly be determined. As stated in the national plan, negotiations will be resumed on the question of the arrangements to be made to secure payments from consultants for the use of public hospital facilities for their private patients. The above measures are expected to yield about £6 million in 1985. I am not in a position to give any more detailed information at this stage.
