Vol. 352 No. 10

Written Answers. - Estates Division.

431.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when an estate (details supplied) in County Kilkenny will be divided by the Land Commission.

This estate will be disposed of as quickly as possible but the programme may be affected by the staffing releases that will have to be made in connection with the new farm tax announced in the national plan.

432.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has investigated the division of the Anhold estate, formerly Gaffney, Kinlough, County Leitrim, and if he can justify the allocation of 13 acres to a person (details supplied) who is not a full-time farmer and has no stock, while another person who is a full-time farmer, was not considered.

The selection of allottees for land is reserved by law to the lay commissioners and I have no function in it. However, I understand that there were 35 applicants for the land in question but that owing to the poor quality only four of these could be accommodated. I understand also that, although one of the allottees has let his parcel on a short-term basis in order to secure capital to rehabilitate his holding, the Land Commission are satisfied that this is a purely temporary arrangement.
