Vol. 352 No. 11

Written Answers. - Fertiliser Prices.

38.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if, in view of the number of increases in fertiliser prices over the past year, he proposes to bring in price control.

Fertiliser prices have not been subject to detailed price control since 1973 largely because of the extensive competition that has been evident at all levels of the industry. Over the past few years the rate of increase in fertiliser prices has been much less than general inflation. The National Prices Commission has from time to time monitored the movements in fertiliser prices and published details of its findings in its monthly reports. I have asked the commission to review the more recent price movements in the light of current market conditions and to advise me whether any change in existing arrangements is necessary.
