asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the situation existing in connection with the Poppintree community and leisure centre, in so far as it has not been operating in the fashion envisaged for the benefit of the local community; and if he will have the matter examined with a view of affording all necessary co-operation for that purpose.

Poppintree sports complex was provided under the National Programme for the provision of recreational facilities introduced by the Minister for Education in 1980. My Department sanctioned the raising of a loan of £84,000 by Dublin County Council in February 1981 for the purpose of defraying the cost of the council's contribution towards the provision of this complex, and the loan was fully drawn by December 1982. I have no function in relation to the operation of the complex. However, I understand that the local group which operated it are in communication with Dublin County Council, regarding the operation of the centre and that a meeting is taking place between the Department of Labour and the local authority to discuss the matter.
