Any appointments of persons with economics qualifications to the staff of my Department which were made since December 1982 were made to posts filled by general service grades. These appointments were made in the normal course, i.e. through competitions conducted by the Civil Service Commission. There has not been a post of professional economist in my Department during the time covered by the question.
