Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - Louth School.

385.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the serious situation which has arisen as a result of her Department's decision to close St. Michael's School, Omeath, County Louth which is not in the best interest of education in County Louth; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The post-primary education needs of the Cooley peninsula are served at present by St. Michael's secondary school, Omeath, and Bush vocational school.

The authorities of St. Michael's secondary school have informed my Department that they intend to withdraw from the school at the end of the 1985-86 school year. The question of the future provision to be made for post primary education in the area in the light of the decision of the school authorities is under consideration in my Department at present. I can assure the Deputy that adequate provision will continue to be made for the pupils in the area.
