I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the net receipt for PAYE in the year ended 31 December 1983 in respect of all employees was £1,423.4 million. Separate statistics of revenue collected from public service employees are not available. Details are available of the gross figures of PAYE collected in respect of employees in that part of the public sector whose emoluments were brought within the scope of PAYE in 1976-77. These would include a relatively wide class of employees and office holders, including the Civil Service, the Army, the Garda and others. The gross amount of PAYE collected in the year ended 31 December 1983 from the group of employees so defined was £295.5 million. Separate statistics are not available of the amount collected in respect of PRSI and other levies from public service employees.
