Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - Revenue Commissioners' Cork Offices.

462.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason the Office of Public Works spent money on electrical work, carpeting and partitions, in Elm Court, Blackrock, Cork, for use by the Revenue Commissioners; the amount spent; the length of time the Revenue Commissioners occupied these offices; and if these lights and carpets were left in the building when they vacated the offices.

In 1979 in response to an urgent request from the Revenue Commissioners for additional accommodation, the Commissioners of Public Works rented Elm Court, Cork, it being the most suitable building available having regard to location, space and lease conditions. The building was designed as open plan and, to meet the needs of the Revenue Commissioners, partitioning and electrical adaptation works were carried out and floor covering was provided. The total cost of fitting out these offices was £157,608. The Revenue Commissioners occupied the offices in 1980 and vacated them in August 1984 when their accommodation in the newly erected Government Offices at Sullivans Quay was ready for occupation. This coincided with an advantageous break in the lease. Furniture and carpets and other moveable items such as doors, kitchen equipment, etc. were removed for reuse elsewhere. The light fittings are owned by the landlord and thus were not removed.
