asked the Minister for Labour if employment agencies are being used by his Department to recruit workers on a full-time or part-time basis; if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department have used agency staff in the past 12 months and for what grade of worker, i.e. manual, clerical, technical; and if he will state in respect of such staff over the last 12 months (a) the name of the agencies; (b) the number of staff hired; (c) the cost per head to the State and (d) the total amount paid by his Department.

Employment agencies are not used by my Department to recruit staff. All fillable vacancies are filled through the Civil Service Commission and certain temporary positions are filled through the National Manpower Service.

In regard to the State bodies under the aegis of my Department I propose to circulate a statement outlining the extent to which employment agencies have been used in the past twelve months.
