Vol. 353 No. 2

Written Answers. - Staff Recruitment.

475.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if employment agencies are being used by his Department to recruit workers on a full-time or part-time basis; if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department have used agency staff in the past 12 months and for what grade of worker, i.e. manual, clerical, technical; and if he will state in respect of such staff over the last 12 months (a) the name of the agencies; (b) the number of staff hired; (c) the cost per head to the State and (d) the total amount paid by his Department.

An employment agency was used earlier this year to recruit one bilingual shorthand typist (French-English) for a temporary appointment for the duration of the Irish presidency of the European Communities from 1 July to 31 December 1984.

The agency used was Alfred Marks Bureau (Ireland) Limited. One bilingual typist was recruited in this way and the total amount which will be paid by my Department is £4,535. No semi-State body under the aegis of my Department has used an employment agency to recruit temporary or permanent staff.
