Vol. 353 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

628.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway for reclamation work carried out under the western package scheme.

Consideration of this application under the western package awaits clarification by the applicant of turbary rights and rights of way on the land in question.

629.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange to have all cattle inspections for payment of cattle headage grants in disadvantaged areas carried out by 30 September each year.

The 1985 cattle headage inspections in the disadvantaged areas will be started as early as possible but, given manpower restrictions and the need to combine and co-ordinate these inspections with inspections for the suckler cow, calf, and ewe premiums and the sheep headage grants, it is unlikely that they will be completed before 30 September 1985.

630.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will introduce a scheme to subsidise fertilisers because of the depressed state of agriculture at present.

In view of the increased usage of fertilisers in recent years and the pressing demands on the limited resources that can be made available for assistance to agriculture the introduction of a subsidy on fertilisers is not envisaged.

631.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a calf subsidy for 1983 will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person named will be paid premium on 22 calves born in 1983 as soon as the batch which includes his payment is processed.

632.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the up-to-date position regarding the payment of ewe premium for 1984-1985.

The arrangements for the EEC ewe premium scheme were announced recently. Application forms will be issued in January and inspections will commence in April. It is expected that payments will be made around next July after the EEC determines the total amount of the 1984-85 premium for each member state.
