Limerick East): I answered a question by the Deputy on 16 October in relation to promotions made in the force over ten years ago because I assumed from the nature of the question that the Deputy needed the information for some particular purpose.
As far as the present question is concerned, however, I must adhere to the position traditionally maintained by successive Ministers for Justice that the assignments of members of the Garda Síochána to particular duties and centres, whether in the context of promotions or not, is a matter of internal Garda administration. In the absence of any indication that the information is needed for a specific purpose justifying its provision, I regret that I could not undertake to supply it. Indeed, if the position were otherwise, I could be asked about the location of over 11,000 members of the force. I might add that when promotions are made to the ranks mentioned in the question they are publicly announced.
